Women Make Movies reaches its fifth edition

Wednesday, 14th June, 2017. The Women for Africa Foundation (Mujeres por África) will be holding its fifth WOMEN MAKE MOVIES event from 3rd to 7th July, dedicated to African women film directors, in the Sala Berlanga venue in Madrid. As usual there will be five films in the event, which will open on 3rd July with the screening of Jassad Gharib by the Franco-Tunisian Raja Amari. The director will attend the session and take part in the debate afterwards about the film together with the Tunisian film critic Lamia Horrigue, who is very knowledgeable of her work. Also taking part in the debates will be the president of Women for Africa, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, the film director and board member of Women for Africa, Inés París, and the event’s curator, Guadalupe Arensburg.

In addition to Jassad Gharib, this edition of Women Make Movies will be showing Children of the Mountain by the Ghanaian Priscilla Anany; Zin'naariyâ!, by the Nigerian Rahmatou Keïta; Nawara by the Egyptian Hala Khalil; and Tess, by the South African Meg Rickards.

With these five films, there have now been 26 feature films and 6 shorts from 16 African countries that will have been shown in Women Make Movies in its bid to raise awareness among Spanish cinema-goers about films made by female directors from the continent.

All of the films will be shown in the Sala Berlanga venue in Madrid (Andrés Mellado, 53) at 7:30 p.m.
