María Teresa Fernández de la Vega in the 2nd Meeting of Women from Africa and the World in Spain

Friday, 10th January, 2014. The president of the Women for Africa Foundation, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, will take part today in the 2nd Meeting of Women from Africa and the World in Spain, which is to be held in the Valencian town of Paterna this afternoon. At this meeting, women who live in Spain but who come from various countries in our neighbouring continent have the chance to exchange and share experiences. The main aim is to foster their integration from an intercultural perspective.

This is an initiative that underlines these women’s real situation and their involvement in the social and economic fabric. The meeting is organized by the Association of African Women of Paterna whose president, Aissatou Ndiaye, appears in the documentary “Apples, Chicken and Chimeras” directed by the filmmaker Inés París for the Women for Africa Foundation. The film is part of the "African Women in Spain" project with which the Foundation gives a voice and puts a face to a group of half a million people about whom the general public still knows so little.

Today's event will be attended by representatives from different public and private institutions that have collaborated in organising the meeting, such as the Paterna Town Council, the Gypsy Secretariat Foundation and the Federation of Entities for Co-Development and International Cooperation (FEDACOD). The meeting will take place at five in the evening at the Capri Theatre in Paterna.
