A day in the life of Mujeres por África

·         Her Majesty the Queen will be presiding over the event to celebrate the Women for Africa Board of Trustees’ annual meeting.

·         In various audiovisual reports, the foundation will be describing the day-to-day activities of its most representative projects.

Monday, 9th June. Next 11th June at the headquarters of the Madrid Architects' Professional Association (Colegio de Arquitectos de Madrid ), the Women for Africa Foundation’s annual event will be taking place with her Majesty Queen Sofía presiding as the foundation’s Honorary  President.

Under the title “A day in the life of  Women for Africa, the event will screen the day-to-day work of the organisation through four reports shot in the field about the most representative projects in terms of the foundation’s lines of work and goals. “Women at the Wheel", "Stop Fistula", "Ghana Wins!” and "Malian Women for Peace" are the programmes chosen.

This is the annual event organized by Women for Africa and chaired by Queen Sofia, coinciding with the meeting of the foundation‘s Board of Trustees. Its aim is to show the activity the foundation has been carrying out in the areas of economic development, health care, education and empowerment.

The reports show the daily activities of the women who are benefitting from these four projects, with images and testimonies from the protagonists. All the reports have been made in the field for the occasion and have been directed by the Spanish journalist Desirée Ndjambo. The idea is to show first-hand the impact of the work that the Mujeres por África Foundation has been doing since it began in February, 2012.

The event on 11th June will be held alternately with the screenings of the reports, together with speeches in the auditorium. Banco Santander Chairman Emilio Botin will be speaking on behalf of the Women for Africa´s Board of Trustees, as will the Chairman of ENDESA, Borja Prado, and the Chairman of MAPFRE, Antonio Huertas. There will be other speakers from the foundation’s Advisory Board, too: Gertrude Mongella, the former president of the Pan-African Parliament, and Barbara Hendricks, soprano and human rights activist. The foundation’s president, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega will close the event.

It is worth recalling that in 2013 the foundation’s annual meeting also took place in the headquarters of the Madrid Professional Architects’ Association (Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos) with the inauguration of the exhibition "Foundation Year 1: Watch Africa”.
