1st International Meeting on Policies for Development in a Global World

Global public goods and international governance

29th and 30th October, 2013

Tuesday, 22nd October, 2013. The Vice-President of the Republic of Gambia, Isatou Nije-Saidy, will be chairing the inaugural conference of the First International Meeting on Development Policy in a Global World to be held in Madrid on 29th and 30th October. The rector of the Complutense University, José Carrillo, will be attending, as will the president of Women for Africa, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, and the director of the Ramón Areces Foundation, Raimundo Pérez-Hernández.

This first meeting is being organized by the Women for Africa Foundation. It will deal with the specific issue of Global Public Goods and International Governance, at a time when there is intense debate as to what extent the international system is capable of providing the goods that affect international security and progress in our world, studying whether the resources and appropriate institutional mechanisms exist for this.

Renowned scholars such as José Antonio Campo, from Columbia University, and Jeremy Adelman, from Princeton University, will be giving talks, as well as members of international and regional organizations such as Josephine Odera, the Regional Director of UN Women in West Africa, and Khadi Ramatu Saccoh, Commissioner for Finance and Administration of West African States.

The intention is for this initiative to continue in order to become a forum to analyse the major changes and challenges in the international system, as well as the scenarios, policies and institutions that will enable a more inclusive, balanced and democratic international system to be built.

Attendance at this meeting is free of charge, and Complutense University students will get academic course credits.
